With the help of the Forestry Commission local riders have been able to create a Freeride park as part of the Haldon Forest Park project. This is graded as ‘Double Black’ The Foresty Commission have designated a great big patch of land for local riders to build in, in return for their committed efforts and hard graft on the XC trails. Cheers FC! It’s a great plot of land with steep sides, a downhill slope from top to bottom, a stream gulley cutting through half way down and masses of scope for shore and dirt constructions. There appears to be a lot of work to do in the Freeride area, but what they have built so far is big, fast, and scary and looks set to continue that way for a while. There’s alot planned for the area, including wall rides, berms, skinnies, step ups, platforms, rollers, drops, rock gardens blah blah. But for the time being we decided to build something challenging, something to push the envelope a little. So there’s a couple of fairly big drops, a really fast berm leading into a large(20ft gap) or smaller(15ft gap) kicker. A rock garden with a few small drops just to knock you about a bit etc etc etc. They are working on the Freeride area constantly, so be patient, there’s more on its way. Please DO NOT alter any structure and DO NOT build anything without permission. The Forestry Commission can and will take back their land and demolish the trails at any time should any such structures are found to have been built illegally. Sorry to bang on about it, but it’s a necessary evil. They always interested to hear peoples views on the trails good or bad, this just helps us build better trails at the end of the day, so if you have any opinions or ideas for structures or just a gripe about a section of trail then get in touch. www.haldonfreeride.org
